New Zealand Manuka Honey has medicinal qualities not found in other honeys and seems to have the ability to naturally destroy staphaureus and streptococcus. Staph, and strep bacteria are typically involved in the common sore throat, cold, canker sore and fever blister. Manuka Honey is also applied to minor cuts, pimples and scratches. Manuka honey also tastes great on toast, mixed with butter, peanut butter or to sweeten tea. Pure Organic Honey direct from New Zealand. Made from the Manuka flower to produce a honey rich in natural taste and healing qualities that are only created from the Manuka.
Delicious Healing Honey (Review by Rebecca Johnson)
Manuka Honey has a depth of flavor unlike orange blossom or traditional clover honey varieties. This honey is less translucent and more grainy than smooth and leaves you wondering about the exact way to describe the flavor. The pollen comes from the Manuka Tree, which is in the same plant family (Myrtaceae) as the Tea Tree in Australia. The sap, seed pods, leaves, bark, flowers and gum of manuka have been used in preparations to treat a variety of complaints. The color is more amber and the taste has hints of a faraway forest, smoky fires and eucalyptus trees. The depth of color in the honey reveals the mineral content which means if it is darker, it is richer in minerals. The antibacterial elements make this more healing than other honeys and it can be used internally or externally on the skin, in the bath or in beauty masks for its ant-inflammatory properties. If you want the full medical benefits, also look for UMF (unique manuka factor) Active Manuka honey will naturally destroy streptococcus. It is also effective helicobacter pylori, the bacteria responsible for stomach ulcers. It can also be used for the treatment of heartburn and acid reflux. Laboratory research has proved this to be effective in killing strains of bacteria and fungi and it can be used on cuts, wounds, burns and skin infections to promote healthy skin regeneration with minimal scarring. Look for Comvita 18+ Wound Care. It also seems to help prevent tooth decay, unlike sugar so that makes it perfect to add to your rooibos tea or green tea. Making a soothing tea with this honey can help a sore throat, cough, sinus infection and cold or flu symptoms. Also look for East Cape Manuka Oil (contains high levels of high levels of Flavesone, Isoleptospermone and Leptospermone) that can be used externally for its antimicrobial activity.
Many people have found it hard to describe the taste of manuka honey. A professional food taster used molasses and candied orange peel when describing to me.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking for the UMF Manuka Honey for its tested extra healing properties, it is important to actually look for the UMF® mark on the labels of the jars, as in some countries there have been problems of people mis-advertising ordinary manuka honey (it doesn't all have the same amount of antibacterial properties).
Also, for information, the Comvita Wound Care 18+ mentioned (which is aimed at external use) is also called Comvita ManukaCare 18+ is some countries eg, UK and Europe.
